Dr. Mary Larenas, Psy.D., is a registered psychological assistant in Fremont. She earned a Doctor of Psychology degree at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. She completed postdoctoral training in the clinical assessment of patients with memory disorders at the U.C.S.F. Memory and Aging Center. As Chief Intern in Neuropsychology and Geropsychology at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center she performed neuropsychological assessments, individual and group therapy to cognitively impaired residents. Also at LHHRC Dr. Larenas worked as a member of the Substance Abuse Treatment Services providing education, assessments, consultations, individual and group therapy.
She has also trained at an Adult Day Health Care and Alzheimer’s respite care. In addition to her clinical training she has done 9 years of research on the biology, genetics and behavior of alcohol dependence.
Dr. Larenas has a very interactive style and utilizes education and assessments in her therapy sessions to help clients gain a deeper understanding of their psychological burdens and life obstacles. When evaluating a client, she considers not only the psychological factors that the client presents but also how their relationship with their career, family, health, biology (brain and body systems) and social factors impact their life. This is an effective and critical approach especially when working with older patients.
Dr. Larenas has a special interest in working with those who suffer from chemical dependency, with a focus on professional women with alcohol concerns and the elderly along with their caregivers around anxiety, depression, loss, grief, medical problems, aging and end-of-life issues.
Dr. Larenas PSB 35897 is practicing as a registered psychological assistant to Dr. Anne Bisek PSY 21650 and is available for sessions in Fremont during the day and evenings on Mondays and Thursdays and Tuesday evenings by appointment. She is currently accepting adults and seniors for individual psychotherapy.
